“Once upon a time” Ronald James Mahler was born on Cape Breton Island, N.S. on Thursday February 9th 1967 (in a raging snowstorm by the way). His many interests throughout his young life included being an astronaut, fireman, and even an oil man! Taking marketing and graphic design after high school he became a commercial artist and worked at various advertising outlets until 1994.
Ron has been following Jesus Christ as his Saviour, since he was 24, and entered the ministry as a Bible College graduate and youth intern, in 1996. Ron is passionate about teaching/preaching, ministering to people, and relationally impacting and reaching those who are spiritually distant (or lost) from Christ.
Ron was born to draw, as if he “came out of the crate” with a pencil in his hand! He has printed several of his works, some of which were exhibited in the Ethel Curry Gallery in Haliburton, ON. Ron is also talented in the area of music, can carry a decent tune, and plays two instruments (one shouldn’t be surprised, then, to hear that he is also a distant relative of the classical composer Gustav Mahler!) Ron is a great sports fan as well and religiously follows and cheers for his beloved New England Patriots.
Ron is the youngest of six siblings (three boys, three girls), all R’s and L’s! A brother passed away in 1964 (Richard); his father (Glenn) passed in December 2006; his mother (Mary) is in her 88th year!
Ron, who currently works as the Resident Chaplain at Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland, ON., counts it an unbelievably humbling privilege and responsibility to serve the Living God in any capacity. He loves to read widely, learn new things about people, history, and life in general, and plans to complete a fifth book in the future. Ron is also an award-winning author and his fourth book entitled The Banquet (based on the Parable of the Great Banquet in Luke 14), which won The Best New Canadian Manuscript Award (sponsored by Castle Quay Books) in June of 2017, was released December 2018.
At present, Ron is endeavouring to tour various cities, bookstores and churches as part of promoting THE BANQUET.
